The “Morgan Horse” is an American Breed of horse. Justin Morgan acquired a colt in 1789 and named him Figure. Figure was the founding sire of all the Morgan Horses. There is a book about “Figure” called Justin Morgan Had a Horse. There is post in the Findings Blog about the book. http://writer2b.wordpress.com/2008/03/26/justin-morgan-had-a-horse/

Some Morgan Horses have ”Bay Characteristics” of the brown body and black mane and tail. Although the colors do vary. One beautiful variation is black with brown mane and tail. They are gentle and easy-going and great with kids.

Morgan HorseMorgan Horses are often used in show arenas. With their upright powerful build they are great for trail riding, jumping, and were originally used for plowing fields and by their ealry owners. If one word describes the Morgan Horse it would have to be “versatility”. The horse is a great all around animal.

There is a wonderful association called The American Morgan Horse Association or the AMHA. It features registry information and even a magazine dedicated to the Morgan Horse. The association also has news and dates of upcoming events.
